About

Nice to meet you!

I am Sophia, a designer and maker based in the beautiful PNW city of Seattle, Washington.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved working with my hands. Whether it was drawing, or scrapbooking, or using raw materials to craft something out of nothing. The past five years saw my profound immersion into the realm of fiber arts. It was here that my passion truly ignited, whether it's macramé, embroidery, crochet, knitting, or weaving, there's something about touching and transforming fiber with my hands that I find absolutely captivating.

Making Treasures was created as a marriage between my love for the fiber arts with my love for making... with my desire to contribute to the crafting community in a meaningful way. I was a digital designer and web developer professionally for almost a decade before I quit to pursue my passion in art (ha, but who am I kidding, the main reason was really moving to a new country followed by starting a family 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 🐶. Fun fact: I am actually Canadian!).

The Maker's Notebook was my first product idea. As an ardent planner, I noticed there weren't many project journals on the market, at least, not one that fit my needs or aethetics. So, I decided to take the matter into my own hands and designed a notebook that is not only lightweight enough to carry around, had more than enough pages for all the projects, but also delightfully beautiful, and sturdy enough to last for years.

And from there, I designed other smaller products to accompany the stationary side of the brand. But, Making Treasures is not just about stationary. The other side of the brand is the handmade aspect. As a maker with many affinities (sewing being one of my greatest loves), of course I had to use that skill to create something that would further benefit my fellow makers: bags!

But, these are a bit different from the traditional (project) bags you are probably thinking about. But more on that later... 🤫

My values

The values I stand behind my brand are:

  • Distinctive
  • Functional
  • Accessible
  • Whimsical
  • Elevated

I strive to create products that are earth-friendly, ethically sourced + manufactured, and crafted with quality in mind. I am a self-proclaimed perfectionist, and also incredibly picky (a good and bad quality, as my husband would add). When you purchase any products from me, rest assured they've gone through iterations after iterations (and still going through iterations) to ensure it is the absolute best it can be before I put it on here.

While I am a one-woman business, my family is a big proponent in supporting this endeavor day after day. You'll usually find me with both of my 2 littles, and of course my furbaby, Mochi, whenever I am packing orders, thinking up new product ideas, or knitting/sewing/all the things. They are always around and the other 100% of my life and I am grateful everyday I get to support my family while doing what I love.

Of course, I could not do any of this without your support.

Whether you have stumbled this website for a quick browse, or liked one of my posts on Instagram, or you've been following me since the beginning, or, you've gone as far as making a purchase from me (I mean, whaaaat! 🤯), you are an absolute gem and I am delighted you are here!

If you've purchased or was gifted one of my products, don't forget to tag me on Instagram @makingtreasures — I would love to see how you use them! And of course, feedback is always welcome and extremely appreciated.

Happy making!

Sophia
